Back from summer back, Lando Norris resumed in style. He started the second half of the season in Zandvoort with an impressive pole position by three and a half tenths. On Sunday the masterpiece. The Brit secured his second Formula 1 victory with a dominant performance at the Dutch Grand Prix to beat Max Verstappen at his home race.

Despite losing the lead into the first corner, the McLaren driver recovered from that to pass Verstappen and immediately started to build a break over the Red Bull to ensure he had a considerable cushion in hand over the Dutchman – crossing the line with a 22.9-second lead. This ensured that, with the fastest lap, Norris managed to reduce Verstappen’s championship lead to 70 points.

How does it feel winning in Verstappen’s home GP?

“It feels amazing, once again I wouldn’t say a perfect race because of lap 1 again, but after that it was beautiful. The pace was very strong, the car was unbelievable and I could get comfortable, push, and pass Max. From quite early on, actually, from pretty much lap 5-6-7, I expected Verstappen to start pushing and get a bit of a gap, and he never did. So from that point, I knew we were in with a good fight and my pace was getting better.”

Second at -70 points from the leader, how do you see the title fight?

We are living a good momentum and the path is still long. At Zandvoort we had a very strong pace while Red Bull had a difficult weekend. We need to keep our head down and keep on

beating Max (Verstappen) and win to reduce the gap. Looking back, for sure we could have done some more points. We missed the win in Silverstone, the success was also possible in Canada. The potential was there but of course racing is racing so it remains hypothetical. we could have done better also in Austria.

Looking at the championship, do you think you need to change something?

With the team we analyze everything before and after the race. There are always places where we can improve, as a racer and as a team. I have some regrets. In Silverstone, for example, I would have loved to win and I think we also had the potential to do it. I really wanted to win in my homeGP but we did some mistakes. When you aim at winning the title everything has to be close to perfection. we know that mistakes are part of the growth. I know I will make some mistakes, myself and the team, buy we need to accept and also learn from them. I have learned many lessons. one above all: there are some things that you can prepare and something not. You need to focus on what you have under control.

What about the Constructor championship?

I think we have more chance because the gap to the first is smaller. We are living a very good momentum and the team can count both on myself and Oscar (Piastri). this is pur target, we all want to win the Constructor championship. I think we are the best team.

What is the main challenge?

Max (Verstappen) for sure, but I think he is not the only one. we have many more rivals such as Lewis Hamilton and George Russel. In this moment the team is very strong, so the most dangerous rival. There are 6-7 machines that are very competitive in the last weekends”.
